Medical-based Massage Therapy for Pain.
The best approach for pain relief
When many of us think of massage, we think of a spa experience with soft music, the scent of essential oils and being pampered and relaxed. While this is one type of massage experience it is not medical based massage. While a relaxing full body massage can be an important and beneficial part of your routine, medically based massage focuses on specific areas.
When you receive a medically based massage, your sessions are part of a treatment plan developed by the collaboration of a medical professional such as a doctor or chiropractor and a skilled soft tissue therapist. Depending on the desired outcome of your plan, the soft tissue therapist will employ a variety of techniques from deep tissue and trigger point therapy to myo fascial and Swedish techniques.
Typically, your session will be focused on one area or a few related areas. As an example, if you suffer low back pain, your therapist will likely perform work to your low back, your hip and gluteal areas, potentially your thighs, calves and even feet. Your treatment plan will likely consist of multiple sessions in conjunction with chiropractic adjustments. By focusing your sessions on very specific areas, the therapist is able to take the necessary time to release the restrictions of the soft tissues and provide, in many cases, dramatic results. In the end, Medically Based Massage may still be relaxing, but the focus is on providing therapeutic results to issues diagnosed by a medical professional.
